Many Christians nowadays would point to Christmas as the main festival in the church year. In medieval times, Easter was seen as equally important and was one of the most exhilarating and memorable days of the year.

Lent: the preparation for Easter
For medieval Christians, Easter was particularly enjoyable because it came after six weeks of hard fasting and abstinence. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, when churchgoers were marked with ashes, Lent was a time when everyone, rich and poor, was expected to forgo many everyday pleasures.
The emphasis was on sacrifice and even commonplace foods such as eggs and meat had to be saved until the Easter celebrations. Eggs laid during the Lenten period were hardboiled to preserve them, a tradition which continues today in the painting of hardboiled eggs.
The Lenten observances came to a climax during Holy Week, the week before Easter. There were daily church services, but thoughts of Easter applied also to everyday life, with an old tradition forbidding anyone to use nails or iron tools on Good Friday, to commemorate Jesus on the cross.
Good Friday was the day for the ceremony of creeping to the cross, when churchgoers would approach the crucifix on bended knee, or barefoot.

Medieval Easter Day Rituals and Traditions
The dawning of Easter Day was special and memorable for medieval people, with many gathering before dawn to watch the sun rise. Members of each parish would stand near the church and sing hymns as the sun slowly rose and church bells rang out. After greeting the first rays, they would be led to church by the parish priest, singing hymns of joy as they went.
As well as the church’s celebrations, Easter Day was a day for pleasure and fun after six weeks of fasting. Anyone who could afford it, would wear a new set of clothes on Easter Sunday. For many, this could be the only time of year they got a new item of clothing.
Children were involved in the fun, with parents hiding hard boiled eggs as a symbol of the apostles finding the risen Christ in the tomb, and there would be egg rolling and parades.
For many, the main thing to look forward to was that Easter Sunday was one of the few days in the year when no one had to work. It was traditional for servants to present their lord with a small gift, perhaps a dish of food or a new-born animal, and in return, the lord would provide a feast for his servants and their families.
For the wealthier sections of society, the Medieval Easter Court was a time to re-establish friendships, cement business relationships and join their peers at a sumptuous feast, a feast which contained all the foods which had been banned during Lent.
The fun didn’t stop after Easter Sunday. Hock Monday and Hock Tuesday were a chance for the younger people of a town or village to release their high spirits after weeks of fasting. Hock Monday was the day when girls could capture the boys of the area, releasing them only on payment of a donation to church funds. Tuesday was the turn of the boys to capture any girls they saw passing by.
These rituals and celebrations were followed year after year in Christian countries, with each district or country putting its own personal flavour on proceedings, ensuring that the festivities were a real high point in the medieval calendar.

Easter Symbols
Ancient Spring Goddess
According to the Venerable Bede, Easter derives its name from Eostre, an Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. A month corresponding to April had been named "Eostremonat" or Eostre's month, leading to "Easter" becoming applied to the Christian holiday that usually took place within it. Prior to that, the holiday had been called Pasch (Passover), which remains its name in most non-English languages.
It seems probable that around the second century A.D., Christian missionaries seeking to convert the tribes of northern Europe noticed that the Christian holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus roughly coincided with the Teutonic springtime celebrations, which emphasized the triumph of life over death. Christian Easter gradually absorbed the traditional symbols.

Easter Eggs
In Medieval Europe, eggs were forbidden during Lent. Eggs laid during that time were often boiled or otherwise preserved. Eggs were thus a mainstay of Easter meals, and a prized Easter gift for children and servants.
In addition, eggs have been viewed as symbols of new life and fertility through the ages. It is believed that for this reason many ancient cultures, including the Ancient Egyptians, Persians, and Romans, used eggs during their spring festivals.

The UpClose Column introduces the most interesting, famous and exquisite Citizens of the Empire of Fayandria. The questionnaire is almost the same and what makes each interview unique is the subject’s answers and reactions.
As a journalist, I have had the privilege to interview quite a number of characters… I have met various types of persons: quiet, moody, happy, smart… and the list could go on. Our beloved Empress is back, safe and sound

After a fierce battle against dark Queen Lucy, our brave warriors as well as our allies were finally able to kill the demon and set our Empress Faya and Queen Lucy free.
The crystals were arranged by Lady Joyce and worked their magic bringing Empress Faya and good Queen Lucy back to us all.
All Fayandrians appreciate the gallantry revealed by all warriors for many died and many more were wounded. They all fought with their hearts so bless them all for their bravery…

…But the mystery remains… Who returned the Crystal Fay?

Magic will be needed to save Empress Faya…

Yesterday was to have been a memorable day of celebration as Fayandrians gathered at Vox Angeli grounds to commemorate their Highnesses, Emperor Jedediah and Empress Fayandria, Rez-day. The Empress was joyful surrounded by her friends and family. There was dancing, vibrant conversation and light refreshments.

The merriment was violently wrecked by a ruthless, vicious and prolonged attack perpetrated by dark Queen Lucy. Our brave warriors fought relentlessly defending and protecting the Empire as well as Empress Faya’s welfare who was taken to a safe and secret place.
It was a long-lasting stakeout with fierce and brutal attacks by dark Queen Lucy. What followed has turned into great sorrow for the Empire… Empress Faya went missing. She was not at the safe location; her broken seal and wandering falcon were found there…

A notification was sent to Emperor Jedediah. It is believed that «Queen Lucy» was responsible and all that was known was stated in a missive containing the following words:
«Stepping into the glow of the seven crystals Lucy shields her eyes as she picks up and examines each crystal, the brilliance of each lessening and strengthening in direct correlation to the distance of one to another crystal. Mesmerized by the pulsing intensity of the light from each crystal, Queen Lucy becomes enthralled with arranging each crystal so the glow from one is identical to the adjacent one.  Contemplating carefully the placement for the remaining crystal, she deliberately sets the crystal down and steps back to admire her accomplishment».

After hours of looking far and near, Prince Lander, Lord Raven and Lady Copper found themselves in Artstonia, where Lady Copper laid down for a rest. The men pushed ever onward and not long after, they stumbled upon a Drow and a Witch...
Lord Raven flew high with his wings of black and swiftly encountered a 4000 meters building. He came back down to get Prince Lander and together they reached the tall building. Inside, they found a crystal with Empress Faya trapped inside.

Up in the sky far above from everyone, Lord Raven, Lady Copper and Prince Lander and Copper are guarding the Crystal that has the Empress captured… Our brave warrions, although tired and exhausted, stand faithful to their duty to the Empire and never cease to guard the Crystal.

Magic will be essential if we are to save our beloved Empress…

The Empire of Fayandria Code of Conduct

Posted by Anouk Lefavre in ,

Welcome to Fayandria!

INTRODUCTION:
The Empire of Fayandria is dedicated to medieval role-play (“RP”). The RP is free form in nature and not based on any one specific tale.
Please read these rules carefully. It's not as much to read as it looks at first. Everybody is expected to comply with this Code of Conduct and Rules to ensure fair and happy RP.

CODE OF CONDUCT:
We have a few simple rules to follow while you are here.
Please read below and ask one of our Ministers or a resident if you have any questions.

1. Give respect to all.... and have fun!

2. This is an RP Sim. RP, no matter your experience, is expected and ongoing at all times. Please keep private conversations and Out of Character (“OOC”) comments in IMs, so as not to disturb RP.

3. If you start an RP in Fayandria, be fair. If you break character or leave at a critical moment you may be considered dead for 24 hours. If some one does not have a meter on, don't start to fight them; they are OOC or non combatant

4. This sim is Medieval, and medieval wear is expected.
Dress Code: All players and visitors will dress in medieval attire. They will dress in character. While this Sim contains mature subject matter, it is NOT a sex Sim. All players are expected to dress appropriately.

5. Teleporting (TPing):
1) No TPing out of a battle, to escape capture or combat.
2) The use of TPing in and out of Fayandria is fine if you use the transporter portals (looks like a sundial) located on several Sims.
3) If you need to leave for OOC reasons, notify an admin to get consent. When this occurs make it known in ((OOC)) and agree with the other party to resume the RP at a later time or/and agreed outcome. If you don't like an RP situation, you are welcome to TP out, as said before.

6. No Gorean or BDSM activities will be part of the RP here. (Capturing can happen in RP but only with consent, and not for the purpose of sexual slavery). Those breaking this rule will be ushered off the sim.

7. We are all free citizens and in charge of our own behaviour. We are adults and are expected to behave with appropriate decorum and dignity. No nudity, or "adult behaviour" is permitted in public areas or in public view. You are all, however, free to perform any and all acts of love, passion or sex in any manner, and at any time you choose, in the privacy of your homes or castles.

8. BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE CHILD AVATARS AROUND! However, it is the responsibility of the person playing the child avatar to avoid situations which are either sexual in nature or have the potential to develop into an adult situation. PLEASE READ "CHILD AVATARS" BELOW.
Consequences:
1st You will be warned about the rule you are breaking.
2nd You will be asked to comply.
3rd You will be ejected.

RULES OF ROLE-PLAY
RP is fun and easy, and you can have the time of your Secondlife doing it. These are some basic rules that you may find helpful.

Azora Meters:
By entering the Empire of Fayandria, and wearing the Azora meter, you agree that you will obey this Sim’s Code of conduct and Rules. The Azora Meter is provided for you free of charge.

You agree that you are at least 18 years of age. Fayandria is a mature Sim meaning it is possible to come across adult situations or subject matter.

You agree NOT to age play in public or private. Any such acts will be dealt with severely by Fayandria’s staff AND Linden Labs.

You agree by wearing the Azora combat meters provided for you, that you are hereby consenting to any RP.

By royal proclamation, it is illegal to wear any other combat system meter here in the Realm. If you do continue to wear a different system, you could be subject to immediate expulsion from the lands of Fayandria.

Permission to access land:
If your RP is going to involve someone else's land, make sure you have permission from the owner of the land to spend some extensive time on that land on a certain day or time.
You won't run into any issues in the Sims of Fayandria because that is what the Sims were designed for.

Personal introductions:
Everyone wears nametags, but in RP you have to be formally or informally introduced before you know the person's name.

Absence of character:
If the storyline takes you away from the lands by kidnapping, capture and so on, then that character should not be seen in any of the Sims until that RP issue has been resolved. For this reason, it is good to have a planned course of action ahead of time so that the issue can be resolved quickly.
In those situations it is also recommended that you have an alternative character (alt) with permissions to build on your behalf so that you can carry on your business. You should also wear an OCC tag or detach your Azora meter so that everyone knows you are taken out of the action. If that is not possible, however, an Alt character can keep the RP true.

Keep to the storyline:
The rule of thumb is that once something is made factual in your story line, it should remain true. When you meet someone, you will continue to be known as the person you introduce yourself as unless for some reason the person you meet had no memory.

Location of items:
If you are setting up an RP and that RP requires an item to be found, do not send out a notice to search for that item unless it is somewhere to be found.

CHILD AVATARS:
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Absolutely no age play, sex or anything along those lines will be tolerated and will result in on the spot permanent ban and report to Linden Labs. NO EXCEPTIONS. We will not be held Liable nor tolerate such acts period, and there will be no further discussion on the matter.

To play a "child" Avatar you must either have "Parent(s)" or be designated as an “Orphan”. “Parents" will be held responsible for "child" avatars unless they tell an admin they are no longer "Parents" of said child. Any Adult confronting a "child" to fight or engage in age play or any inappropriate acts, RP or OOC will be banned on the spot.

Players who choose to play a child in Fayandria are welcome. However, this is a MATURE CONTENT SIM with COMBAT and OTHER ADULT SITUATIONS. Though this is not a sex Sim, there are places where nudity and intimacy are permitted. While ADULTS are permitted to play children of any age here, you are expected to keep your character away from battles and adult situations.

A child will be allowed to carry weapons if he or she has been continuously trained in their use. They will, however, avoid battles. Players are not to intentionally harm a child in any way, but it must be understood that a child avatar may be hit and possibly even killed if he or she is too close to a battle. Players are not expected to stop and check whether a child avatar is in the vicinity prior to battle.

Attacking/Harming Children:
No player will intentionally attack a child or harm them in any way, either through meter combat or RP. If a child does not leave the field of battle and is accidentally hit, it is that player’s own fault. However, you are to avoid hitting children when possible even in battles.

Child "prisoners"
Children may be kidnapped to use for prisoner exchange. Children may not be harmed in any way or forced to do any work.

Of Age
When a child is 14 years of age they may defend themselves unless it is in their race rules to be otherwise.

Addendum:
Story lines will always grow and develop and intertwine as we progress. Many of our paths will cross in the most interesting ways.
We look forward to role-playing with you.
